review of the Pocketbook PRO 902

pocketbook pro 902 300x212 review of the Pocketbook PRO 902

Hardware

The Pocketbook PRO 902 is a 9.7 inch e-reader with a resolution of 1200×825 and 166 DPI. At its core it features a Samsung, 533 MHz processor and has 256 MB of internal RAM. It also has 2 GB of internal FLASH memory and you can further enhance it for up to 32 GB via the micro USB port.

Internet connectivity of the new Pocketbook 902 is done via WI-FI, and will connect to open and secure networks. We found connecting to longer password protected networks with a combination of upper and lowercase letters to be very hard to get correctly. There is no way for passwords to be visible as you are typing, so it is very easy to make mistakes.

Review: The Sharper Image Literati eReader

Literati Review: First Impressions

The letters from Sharper Image is a basic electronic book reader. Necessarily a blow to the device, is the way it was designed to be.

While his design looks a bit ‘aimed at eReader Augen, is in no way like this device. The letter is not a versatile hybrid tablet eReader. He has no Web browser or a video player or even a music player. It ‘s just an ebook reader.

Random House ready to help new e-reader owners ‘curate’ their e-book collections

If you’re lucky, you might be getting a new e-reader as a holiday gift this year. 2010′s “Year of the Tablet” might have fizzled but e-readers (led by the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook and supplemented by hardware that doubles as an e-reader, such as Apple’s iPad and just about every smartphone sold this year) seem to have quietly gained a lot of traction. Back in November the NY Times ran an article that claimed e-readers were going to be a hot gift this holiday season.

Will the Nook Color Catch On?

Will the Nook Color Catch On?If you can look past the inexplicable notch on the bottom, this may be just what you’re looking for in a tablet.I haven’t been too kind to Nook in the past, but I’ll admit that I’m intrigued by Barnes & Noble’s new offering.  B&N decided to abandon the e-ink technology that defines the e-readers with their new Nook Color, and has come from out of the blue to compete in the tablet market.

Buying an E-Reader? Some Things You Need to Consider First

If you are considering buying yourself or someone you love an e-book reader, I’m sure you’ve seen articles that declare that one e-reader is better than another. The truth is that none of the e-readers that those articles are talking about are bad, it’s just that some e-book readers are a better fit for some people. When you set out to purchase an e-reader you need to ask yourself lots of questions so you can figure out what kind of e-book reader you are before you buy. I’m not going to tell you which e-reader you should buy, but I’m going to tell you what you need to think about before you buy it.

The last Switched On introduced the opportunity of the Kno tablet, which is in transition from having a large hardware footprint to having a large customer footprint. Without question, the Kno hardware is an outlier, but could be simply a first salvo in a battle for digital textbooks that will take years to play out.

Look at the ironic development of e-readers. Today’s LCD-based Nook Color would not exist if Sony and Amazon had not opened (and soothed) consumers’ eyes with e-paper-based readers that were themselves an answer to an early generation of LCD-based products like the Rocket e-Book. The outlier shows the potential.

Oh, e-readers are e-readers. And tablets are tablets. And surely the twain shall meet. Indeed, they already have, with the iPad hosting not only its own integrated bookstore, but client software from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and others. Barnes & Noble, in turn, describes its new Nook Color as a “readers’ tablet.” But these devices and their affiliated digital bookstores are all chasing the same avid readers of bestsellers. These readers read mostly for leisure or self-directed enrichment as they can fit it in to their schedules.
