It’s been a wild ride these past few weeks with surprising early launches for both the Amazon Kindle Fire and the B&N Nook Tablet, making the market that much more competitive for Kobo’s social e-reader tablet, the Vox. The holiday season is also prime time for price-slashing deals, and AT&T’s ahead of the curve with a special deal for a Samsung tablet and smartphone bundle. LG iss also hoping to broaden its Android devices, revealing plans to launch a Google TV at CES next year. It’s certainly a wide world for Android, as the platform supports a blooming array of gadgets.

When it comes to e-readers these days, most of the action here in the U.S. seems to be concentrated around the Kindle, Nook, and iPad. But every week or so, we’ll notice a traffic spike on CNET for an e-reader that isn’t from Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Inevitably, this is due to a special discount that some store is running on the product or perhaps even an appearance in a Best Buy circular.

Google wants to change the e-books and e-readers’ game.

It’s still early to say if Google’s new online bookstore will succeed, but based on the popularity of the search engine giant, a lot of “fan boys” will surely do the big shift.

The platform where book lovers will have the chance to own an electronic book copy and save it in the cloud is brilliant. The new Google service scheduled to hit the internet market before the Holidays can also change the current online books market share, where latest data show iPad significantly eating the pie share of popular e-commerce site Amazon.

Review: Nookcolor Is Best Dedicated E Reader

When Barnes & Noble Inc. began to sell its first electronic reading device, the Nook, a year ago, I found it as welcome as a bookcase landing on my toe. It was a terrible design — slow, confusing and buggy.

The successor, the NookColor, is a huge improvement and the best dedicated e-reader on the market this holiday season.

The new color touch screen makes navigation and reading much easier. At $249, it is great for consumers who are not yet willing to spring for a pricier tablet computer such as the iPad.

The waves of publicity generated first by Amazon’s Kindle and follow-up devices such as the Nook and Galapagos, and now by tablet devices such as Samsung’s Galaxy Tab and the upcoming BlackBerry Playbook, have made e-book readers among the most discussed (and debated) tech items of the last couple of years.
